Copisti a Milano tra la fine del Quattrocento e l'inizio del Cinquecento. Prime ricerche

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2020
abstract:
The paper proposes a first survey into the Milanese book production of the last decades of the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, between the affirmation of the power of Ludovico il Moro, up to the second and third Sforza duchies, that is, until the death of Francesco II (1535). Some luxury products are examined, connected to each other by identities of copyists, illuminators, clients, with the aim of outlining centers of cultural irradiation and methods of dissemination and intersection of graphic and decorative models that also involve contemporary publishing activity. By combining the data that emerge from artistic production, from the history of early publishing, from archival investigations on the powerful families of Milan and on the ecclesiastical enviroments of major importance, it is possible to trace the profile of lesser-known personalities, alongside others well-known ones, which lay the bases to outline a composite and varied picture of Milanese production of the time.
