The paper presents, from a palaeographic-codicological point of view, the results of a multi-year investigation conducted as part of the project SNF Polifonia Sforzesca: The Motet Cycles in the Milanese Libroni between Liturgy, Devotion, and Ducal Patronage (Schola Cantorum Basiliensis FHNW, 2018-2020), dedicated to the four Gaffurius's Libroni of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano. The analysis conducted on Librone 1 has made possible to clarify the various
design and compositional phases that saw Gaffurio and two other copyists at work in several stages. The in-depth knowledge of Franchino Gaffurio's writing and graphic methods, developed through the study of the manuscripts in his private library, autograph and otherwise, and followed over the course of the 50 years of his professional life, combine biographical, palaeographical, cultural and archival elements to reconstruct the complex activity of the Gaffurio's building ; of the Duomo Chapel.
