This chapter provides a non-exhaustive review of the literature on the Social Vulnerability Index in order to share with Disaster Studies scholars and other professionals a general overview of the subject. This work analyzes selected case
studies on the construction of a Social Vulnerability Index at national and local scales, and then specifically focuses on cases concerning social vulnerability to climate change, natural hazards, and COVID-19.
