Geografie del rischio e della vulnerabilità: approcci teorici ed esperienze didattiche a confronto

This volume primarily aims to analyze interdisciplinary perspectives of risk geography, subfield that studies interactions between extreme natural events and human societies. While in Italy there currently no established school of risk geography, key figures such as Roberto Almagià and Mario Baratta can be considered pioneers of such a sub-branch of geography, one that surmounts dualisms between physical and human geography. The genealogy of risk studies, first established by the American school and followed by contributions from the French school in the 1970s, trace the evolution of this field. Theoretical-methodological approaches and empirical research illustrate how risk geography is closely connected with the analysis of human behavior and social perceptions from which the factors of community
resilience and vulnerability can emerge. The second part of the volume will feature didactic case studies concerning the analysis of experiences in the seismic risk perception. Grounded in the methods of the geographies of perception and risk, these studies were carried out in schools located in the Municipalities of Calabria, Basilicata (southern Italy)
and on the Maltese islands.
