Constantine and Slavery

The research aims to investigate the relationship between Constantine’s legislation. Although previous studies concerning this “classic” topic assumed a Christian inspiration in Constantine’s laws, this paper re-examines the wide and varied available material in order to detect the reasons and purpose of an alleged favor libertatis, as well as the interference of political motivations related to the role played by the Church.
