The First World War - also characterized by atrocities and violence as well as by crisis - influenced, among other things, the normal economic trend in Italy, thus determining important changes in the path of the companies at various dimensional levels.
The essay analyzes the micro-history of the family business called "Ditta dei Fratelli Vallone" which – having its headquarters in Brindisi and operating in the sectors of tailoring, trade of cloth, haberdashery and military supplies - was hit by a severe economic crisis due also to causes deriving from the Great War and the first historical phase that followed.
