Towards Robust Biometric Authentication: Implementing Post-Quantum Cryptography via Code-Based Fuzzy Extractors

In the burgeoning era of quantum computing, the security of biometric authentication systems is thrust into a new paradigm, necessitating the exploration and implementation of post-quantum cryptographic schemes. This paper delves into the intricate landscape of biometric authentication, with a particular focus on the implementation of Fuzzy Extractors based on code-based cryptosystems, notably resilient against quantum attacks. Through a meticulous exploration of the McEliece cryptosystem, the paper elucidates the underlying mechanisms and security attributes of utilizing error-correcting codes within the realm of biometric authentication. Theoretical models are juxtaposed with practical implementations, revealing critical insights and challenges, particularly in the context of False Rejection Rate and True Positive Rate. Experimental analyses, conducted utilizing facial recognition biometrics, illuminate the complexities and discrepancies inherent between theoretical predictions and real-world applicability. Furthermore, the paper navigates through the ethical, privacy, and practical considerations, underscoring the imperative to balance technological advancements with ethical practices and user convenience. The findings and discussions within this paper pave the way towards developing robust, secure, and user-friendly biometric authentication systems, capable of withstanding the potential threats posed by quantum computing advancements, thereby contributing to the discourse on secure biometric authentication in the imminent post-quantum era.
