abstract:
The Introduction draws parallels between Giuseppe De Lorenzo and Charles Percy Snow, anticipating by half a century the debate on the “two cultures”. A geologist, philosopher and translator of Buddhist texts, De Lorenzo combined science, art and philosophy in a unified vision capable of bridging the gap between the humanities and the sciences. His work, welcomed by the public and critics alike, reflects an original method that intertwines geological data, metaphysical reflection and literary sensibility, opening a dialogue between East and West. His personal experience of pain, his encounter with Buddhism and his search for a clear and universal language characterise his work, which remains relevant today in its attempt to develop a philosophy of life based on the unity of theory and practice.
