The Latin Religious Vocabulary: Zielona Góra, 25th April 2023

The report reconstructs the study day ‘The Latin Religious Vocabulary’, held at the University of Zielona Góra (PL) as part of the international project ‘The Priests of Jupiter’. The meeting was attended by scholars from various countries and was dedicated to the analysis of Latin religious vocabulary, with particular attention to the terminology of prayer, sacrifice and ritual practices. The contributions addressed topics such as the use of verbs in devotional formulas, exauguratio and evocatio, the concept of placatio, sacratio capitis, the value of auspicium, the Feriae Latinae and sacrificial language. The initiative highlighted the importance of philological, historical and historical-religious reflection for a deeper understanding of the technical lexicon of Roman religion.
