abstract:
This chapter reconstructs the figure and thought of Giuseppe De Lorenzo as a forerunner of the debate on the “two cultures”, made famous by Charles Percy Snow in 1959. A geologist and multifaceted intellectual, De Lorenzo developed a vision capable of combining science, philosophy and literature, transforming geology into a “philosophical science” and intertwining scientific reflection, literary sensibility and spiritual research. Through an analysis of his writings on Buddhism, this contribution shows how De Lorenzo developed a unified model of knowledge in which nature and spirit are reflected
