La ristrutturazione delle pensioni e la memoria del 1799 nel Decennio francese

The experience of 1799 and, above all, the repression that followed, left a profound sign in Neapolitan bourgeois. In 1806, when Giuseppe Bonaparte came to Naples, many wondered how much time this new regimen would have last before a new Bourbonic restauration. The French king, combining the need of a wider consensus to the necessity of fixing the finance of the State, issued different determinations and decrees. In 1807 he created pensions and compensations for the ones that had showed, from 1799 on, «commitment to France». To forge a link between 1799 and the new monarchy was a political need and, at the same time, a way to reassure people on the irreversibility of the new system.
