Study Program And Objectives
Objectives
The Degree Programme in Education and Training Sciences enables students to acquire theoretical knowledge and collaborative skills necessary to take on active roles in the design, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of educational and training interventions in a variety of contexts. The knowledge and skills acquired are essential for the work of educators within educational agencies, public and private organisations, socio-educational services, communities, and personal care services. In compliance with Ministerial Decree No. 378/2018, which implements the provisions already established by Legislative Decree No. 65/2017, the Degree Programme also includes a specific curriculum for educators working in early childhood education services. Specifically, the basic curriculum provides students with specific knowledge of educational processes; skills related to the design of human development and training pathways and the assessment of specific abilities; as well as the ability to analyse a multi-ethnic
society, design educational interventions and recreational activities, use technological tools, and manage team teaching activities and collaboration with other professionals within collaborative working contexts.
The programme includes the acquisition of basic knowledge in pedagogical and educational disciplines; the development of methodological and epistemological knowledge and skills; and the acquisition of practical and operational knowledge and skills related to the profession. The basic curriculum provides students with specific knowledge of educational processes; practices related to the design of human development and training pathways and the assessment of specific abilities; the ability to analyse a multi-ethnic society, design interventions and recreational activities, use technological tools, and manage team teaching activities and collaboration with other professionals within collaborative working contexts. It is structured as a three-year programme, in which the first year involves the acquisition of basic knowledge in pedagogical and educational disciplines; the second year is characterised by the in-depth study of methodological and epistemological knowledge and skills; finally, during the third year, students complete the acquisition of practical and operational knowledge and skills related to the profession. The range of
student elective modules offered by the programme also makes it possible, depending on individual interests, to explore specific disciplinary areas in greater depth. The acquisition of university credits through the curricular internship to be carried out in organisations, services, and institutions operating within the local area is also envisaged, in line with the professional opportunities to which the Degree Programme (DP) responds. This experience aims to enable students to develop the ability to apply the
theoretical and methodological knowledge acquired in practice, while also enhancing their ability to collaborate with professionals from different or similar educational backgrounds. The early childhood curriculum provides students with knowledge and skills in: the design and implementation of educational and recreational interventions focused on children aged 0 to 3 years, taking into account aspects related to multiculturalism, marginalisation, and disadvantage; the care, education, and socialisation of children aged 0 to 3 years, through the adoption of appropriate educational and teaching strategies and methodologies aimed at promoting psychophysical well-being, identity development, autonomy, creativity, and play; the assessment of specific abilities, supported by communication and collaboration skills with young children and their families; the development of theoretical and practical knowledge in media education and in the construction of appropriate media diets to work with children aged 0 to 3 years; and the management, within collaborative contexts, of team teaching activities and cooperation with other professionals
involved. This curriculum is structured as a three-year programme. During the first year, students acquire basic knowledge in pedagogical and educational, sociological, psychological, and neuropsychiatric disciplines, with specific attention to early childhood; during the second year, methodological and epistemological skills are further developed, together with applied knowledge related to nursery education and early childhood services; during the third year, theoretical knowledge concerning multiculturalism,
philosophical thought, and psychological approaches applied to the educational field is developed. Practical and operational skills related to the profession of nursery educator are also developed through the application of child behaviour observation techniques. The acquisition of university credits through the completion of the curricular internship is envisaged, including direct internship activities to be carried out in early childhood education services (nurseries or micro-nurseries) and an indirect internship supervised by an internal tutor, which includes group and individual planning and reflection activities.
For both curricula, the study programme concludes with a final examination.
