The research uses the latest developments in econometric techniques for counterfactual evaluation of public programmes (staggered difference-in-differences, synthetic control, regression discontinuity design).

Research and analysis of the territorial determinants of political 'discontent'. The research aims to explore the roots of the main territorial cleavages down to the municipal level, linking electoral manifestations to the most common socio-economic determinants, whose variations are capable of triggering reactionary movements that are often the prelude to political seasons characterised by populism and anti-systemic tendencies. The study of the determinants of "discontent" is functional to understand the economic and social cleavages rooted (above all) in the peripheral areas, important sentinels of representative democracy far from greater urban areas.

Tourism, economic and social development, and the reduction of inequalities in the inner areas. The research aims to study the impact of the most common territorial place-sensitive policies (including SNAI, GAL, ESF, ERDF), also by using econometric tools for the counterfactual evaluation of public policies (policy evaluation).
