Modern languages and literatures and translation

The Master’s Degree Programme in Modern Languages and Literatures and Intercultural Translation is designed to provide students with advanced interlinguistic and intercultural competences in two chosen language areas. To this end, the Programme aims to foster students’ analytical and critical abilities, as well as their written and oral communication skills, by applying them to the study of cultural and intercultural dynamics from a comparative perspective, with particular reference to two main specialisation areas: translation and cultural mediation, and language and literature education. The achievement of these objectives will also be supported by the use of intermediality-based approaches, capable of providing constantly evolving perspectives for analysis and study. Specific workshops will allow students to further refine their knowledge of specialised languages and develop advanced mediation skills. The study of language will also involve the analysis of different expressive, literary, and specialised contexts, the evaluation of linguistic dynamics from historical and comparative perspectives, and the development of advanced translation skills, including through the exploration of theoretical issues and the evolution of translation studies. The expected learning outcomes in language acquisition will be assessed through continuous monitoring throughout the courses and through written and/or oral examinations. All curricula of the Degree Programme include the development of linguistic competences and knowledge throughout the two years of study, through the choice of a first European language among English (L-LIN/12), French (L-LIN/04), Spanish (L-LIN/07), and German (L-LIN/14), together with the study of the corresponding literature, as well as the achievement of specific educational objectives in the fields of Italian linguistics (L-FIL-LET/12), translation theory and history, and language teaching methodology (L-LIN/02). All curriculum options include further internship activities and laboratory-based activities.
